Celebrating 100 years with Ford Model T
 |
| Henry
Ford with the Model T |
Did
you know?
• Had a 10 gallon fuel tank
• Had a hand crank to get engine started
• RWD
• Had wooden artillery wheels
• AKA: Tin Lizzie |
The Ford Model T was an automobile
produced by Henry Ford’s Ford Motor Company
from 1908-1927. The Model T set 1908 as the
historic year that the automobile came into
popular usage. It is generally regarded as
the first affordable automobile, the car that
“put America on wheels.” Some of this was
because of Ford's innovations including- but
not limiting: the assembly line production
instead of individual hand crafting.
The first production Model T
was built on Sept 27,1908 in Detroit, MI.
The Ford Model T was named the world's most
influential car of the 20th Century in an
international poll. Henry Ford said of the
vehicle: I will build a car for the great
multitude. It will be large enough for the
family, but small enough for the individual
to run and care for. It will be constructed
of the best materials, by the best men to
be hired, after the simplest designs that
modern engineering can devise. But it will
be low in price that no man making a good
salary will be unable to own one-and enjoy
with his family the blessing of hours of pleasure
in God's great open spaces.
Henry Ford is commonly reputed
to have made the statement "Any customer can
have a car painted any color that he wants
so long as it is black." It is often stated
that Ford chose black because the paint dried
faster than other colored paints available
at the time, and a faster drying paint would
allow him to build cars faster since he would
not have to wait for the paint to dry.

Eco-Friendly
Features at Jenkins & Wynne
Ford’s
green elements: Example: Ford’s 2008
Mustang, F-150, Expedition, and Lincoln Navigator
feature the market’s first soy-based seat
foam. The maker says its new product will
reduce carbon dioxide by more than 600,000
lb. annually. Ford also uses seat fabric made
from recycled plastics and polyester, saving
water, electricity, and carbon dioxide emissions
Ford:
Will produce within five years more
than 500,000 EcoBoost vehicles, with direct
injection turbocharge and lightweight transmission.
Ford now has five light-duty flex-fuel models,
plus two hybrids, adding the Ford Fusion and
Mercury Milan models later this year. The
F-150 gets a 50-state diesel engine in 2009.
Ford also has a test fleet of 30 hydrogen-powered
Focus fuel cell vehicles.
Honda:
Honda now has a hybrid Civic, will debut a
dedicated hybrid five-door hatchback in early
2009. Later it will intro a small hybrid sports
car based on the CR-Z concept. Honda will
eventually offer a 50-state diesel. Watch
for plans to lease 200 FCX Clarity fuel cell
vehicles by 2011.

Help
for our Soldiers
Please
send donations by September 15, 2008
|
The
Family Readiness Group (FRG) is requesting assistance
in support of the return of single Soldiers
of the 5-158th Aviation. Goal: to get enough
bed sheets donated that every returning single
Soldier can have a clean, neat bed to sleep
on. Sometimes it can take several weeks for
these soldiers to get back their belongings.
Unlike stateside units, the single soldiers
come home to a foreign country, where the parents
of family members are seldom present. By providing
bed sheets is a simple way we can show our appreciation
to the Military.
You
can help by donating, specific items by logging
onto www.target.com
and purchasing items from our registry.
Log
into www.target.com. At the top you will see
TargetList and if you place your mouse on
it, it will drop down and you will see the
words “Advanced Search.” Click on that and
it will bring you to the screen to find a
list. Here you will click on the box where
it says. “Search by Organization.” In this
box type (5th Bat FRG) and click go. This
will bring up the page where the sheets are
listed. Make the selection of the color and
quantity you would like and then add them
to your cart. Once they are in your cart you
are able to check out. All the sheets will
be mailed to the address listed on the website
in the checkout section. It should be as follows:
Crystal Slingerland APO AE 09250. (Note: It
does not show the full address for privacy
but this is the correct shipping address.)
Or you can search by the ID number: 012399301287489
Or by email: beth.bone@us.army.mil
Please send donations by September
15 2008
If you have any questions, please contact
